Area Forecast Discussion

...New AVIATION...

.NEAR TERM...
(Today)
Issued at 333 AM CDT Wed Apr 24 2024

Broken to overcast bands of mid-level clouds continue to push into
the Tennessee Valley ahead of a dry cold front. Due to the very
limited moisture in the atmosphere have kept PoPs below 15 percent
(non mentionable) as precipitation chances will remain very low.
The added cloud cover this morning may keep high temperatures a
degree or two lower than yesterday -- but still think highs in the
mid to upper 70s will be common, especially given the clearing
that will take place by the afternoon.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Saturday night)
Issued at 333 AM CDT Wed Apr 24 2024

With clearing skies occurring this evening and overnight,
temperatures should be able to drop back off quickly with the
setting sun -- pushing lows back into the upper 40s to lower 50s.
The aforementioned front that will be passing through the area
today will lift back to the north by Thursday afternoon/evening in
response to a deepening mid/upper trough pushing from the Ozarks
into the Mid-Mississippi Valley/Great Lakes. Low chances for rain
showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder or two will accompany this
boundary -- but again, very limited moisture will limit PoPs to
20-30% over a short window. An upper ridge axis will amplify over
the Tennessee Valley Friday and Saturday, resulting in a good
warmup as our winds veer to the south. Highs will reach the lower
80s on Saturday and potentially the low to mid 80s on Saturday.
One other note - south to southwesterly gradient winds will be
quite breezy easily gusting into the 15-25 MPH range each day.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday through Tuesday)
Issued at 333 AM CDT Wed Apr 24 2024

Breezy southerly winds will continue on Sunday as the ridge axis
continues to amplify and shift off to the east. In response to
this southwest flow, Gulf moisture will return to the area, as
seen by dewpoints rising back into the upper 50s to lower 60s.
However, without a lifting mechanism in place, the forecast will
simply remain very warm (and a little humid), but free of
precipitation as highs again will climb into the low to mid 80s.
This will begin to chance by Monday as an upper-low shifts from
the central Plains into the Great Lakes, pushing a cold front
toward the area. Still some uncertainties with the timing of this
front -- and with things trending a little later Monday may also
by a very warm and mostly dry day with highs in the 80s in spite
of increasing cloud cover. However, by Monday evening/night into
Tuesday, this front will likely push across the Tennessee Valley,
bringing at least medium chances (40-50%) for showers and
thunderstorms during this window.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 602 AM CDT Wed Apr 24 2024

VFR conditions will be the predominant flight category at each
terminal through the period. BKN/OVC decks of clouds with 4-6 kft
ceilings will continue to pass through the region through midday.
These clouds will begin to scatter out this afternoon and
eventually clear out by this evening and overnight. Winds will
veer from the west to NW/NNW in wake of a cold front that will
pass through the Tennessee Valley during the day.
