...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1857, a late season Arctic outbreak struck the United
States.  Snow fell in every state of the Union, with
Houston Texas recording a low of 21 degrees.   In 1935,
during the Dust Bowl Era, Amarillo Texas reported blowing
dust obscuring visibility for 20 consecutive hours.  They
reported blowing dust 27 of the 30 days that month.  On
several days, the blowing dust reduced visibilities to
near zero.
