Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Lake Charles LA
642 AM CDT Tue Apr 30 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Thursday night)
Issued at 319 AM CDT Tue Apr 30 2024

Main concern this morning is widespread dense fog forming across
the region. Satellite imagery continues to show the expansion of
fog and this will continue until sunrise. Expect improvement
after sunrise with the dense fog adv expiring at 10 am.

The rest of the day will see highs in the middle 80s with the
majority of the area dry. There could be some isolated
showers/storms in SETX, but confidence is low at this time.

Wed/Thu confidence increases for showers/storms as multiple
disturbances move across the region. Plenty of moisture and
instability will be available for storms. While severe weather is
not expected at this time, some of the stronger storms could
bring heavy rain. Therefore the WPC, placed portions of the area
in a marginal/slight risk for heavy rainfall.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday through Tuesday)
Issued at 319 AM CDT Tue Apr 30 2024

Frontal bndry stalls across the region late week into the weekend,
before finally washing out. This will result in daily
showers/storms each afternoon into the weekend. It is possible,
by early next week, mid-level ridging and a more progressive
pattern may finally result in a reduction of POPs/drier weather.

Daytime highs cool a little on Friday with highs in the lower 80s,
but warm right back up by the weekend into the middle/upper 80s.
By early next week, ridging could push some interior locations in
TX/LA into the lower 90s.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 629 AM CDT Tue Apr 30 2024

FG, some dense, continues this morning. Expect FG to gradually
clear by 15Z, if not sooner for some locales. VFR and generally
SKC expected rest of the afternoon. VCTS or -TSRA possible for
KBPT, but confidence is too low for TAF.

Another round of FG and/or low CIGs likely tonight into Wed
morning. MVFR and/or IFR possible at all TAF locales.

.MARINE...
Issued at 319 AM CDT Tue Apr 30 2024

Chances of showers and thunderstorms will increase through
the middle of the week as the surface trough and deep layer upper
level trough approaches the area. Onshore flow expected for the
the period with an SCA possibly needed by Thursday as the pressure
gradient tightens slightly more with winds in the gulf waters
increasing above 20kts briefly.
