...THE FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CDT FOR HAMILTON
COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...

AT 921 AM CDT...ALL OF THE HEAVY RAIN THAT MOVED THROUGH HAMILTON
COUNTY HAS MOVED WELL EAST OF THE REGION. RADAR ESTIMATES OF
RAINFALL OVERNIGHT SUGGESTED BETWEEN FIVE TO SIX INCHES OF RAINFALL
FELL ACROSS WESTERN SECTIONS OF HAMILTON COUNTY. THE VAST MAJORITY
OF THE HEAVY RAIN WAS NOTED IN AN AREA BOUNDED BY MCLEANSBORO AND
MACEDONIA...DALHGREN AND BELLE PRAIRIE CITY.

AT 920 AM CDT...HAMILTON COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR
REPORTED THAT WATER REMAINED OVER PARTS OF HIGHWAY 14...WEST OF
MCLEANSBORO TO THE HAMILTON...FRANKLIN COUNTY LINE. WATER WAS ALSO
REPORTED OVER ROUTE 242 NEAR MCLEANSBORO. SOME MINOR FLOODING WAS
ALSO REPORTED ON SOME SECONDARY ROADS IN THE COUNTY NORMALLY PRONE
TO FLOODING.

ALTHOUGH THE THREAT OF ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAIN IS NOT EXPECTED THIS
MORNING...IT WILL TAKE TIME FOR WATER TO RECEDE FROM AREAS THAT
RECEIVED HEAVY RAIN OVERNIGHT. THEREFORE...THE AREAL FLOOD WARNING
WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES. ADDITIONALLY...COUNTRY
ROADS AND FARMLANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS...STREAMS AND OTHER LOW
LYING AREAS ARE SUBJECT TO FLOODING.

TO REPORT FLOODING...HAVE THE NEAREST LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY RELAY
YOUR REPORT TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST OFFICE.
