YESTERDAY AFTERNOON STARTED OUT WITH VARIABLE CLOUDINESS ACROSS THE
QUAD STATE REGION...LEFT OVER FROM MORNING SHOWER ACTIVITY. BY MID
AFTERNOON...AS SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS GOT GOING...HEAT INDICES SOARED
TO AROUND 110 DEGREES IN PARTS OF SOUTHEASTERN MISSOURI...AND OVER
100 IN PARTS OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AND WESTERN KENTUCKY. MEANWHILE...
HEAT INDICES STAYED IN THE 90S IN SOUTHWESTERN INDIANA. SCATTERED
SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY RAPIDLY DEVELOPED MOSTLY IN
NORTHWESTERN PARTS OF THE AREA AND MOVED TOWARD THE SOUTHEAST.
INITIALLY...SOME OF THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE STRONG...WITH TORRENTIAL
RAINFALL...GUSTY WINDS...AND FREQUENT LIGHTNING. SOME RELATIVELY
STRONG ACTIVITY CONTINUED INTO THE EARLY EVENING. BY MID EVENING...
LITTLE ACTIVITY WAS LEFT...AND WAS GONE BY MIDNIGHT.

OPPRESSIVE CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE FOR THE FIRST HALF OF THIS
WEEK...ESPECIALLY IN THE WESTERN HALF OF THE REGION. SOME WIDELY
SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE TODAY IN THE
AFTERNOON HEAT...PRIMARILY NEAR A RETREATING FRONTAL BOUNDARY NORTH
OF I-64. SCATTERED SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY IS EXPECTED ON
WENDESDAY...ASSOCIATED WITH A COLD FRONT MOVING THROUGH THE REGION.
IN THE WAKE OF THE FRONT...CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO IMPROVE WITH
LESS HUMIDITY AND LOWER PEAK AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES. LOWS WILL
EVENTUALLY DIP INTO THE 60S...WITH HIGHS IN THE 80S.
