...OPPRESSIVE CONDITIONS WILL INCREASE THIS WEEK...

HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD ACROSS THE REGION THIS WEEK, ALLOWING
HEAT AND MOISTURE TO ACCUMULATE. HEAT AND HUMIDITY WILL BE ON THE
RISE STARTING TODAY, WITH HEAT INDICES REACHING 100 IN MUCH OF
SOUTHEASTERN MISSOURI. FURTHER ELEVATION OF THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY
WILL OCCUR MONDAY WITH PEAK HEAT INDICES APPROACHING 105 DEGREES
IN MOST AREAS. SLIGHTLY COOLER AND LESS HUMID AIR WILL FILTER
INTO THE NORTHERN AND EASTERN SECTIONS OF THE REGION THROUGH MID
WEEK, HOWEVER, OUTSIDE OF ANY SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY, LITTLE
IF ANY RELIEF IS EXPECTED FOR SOUTHEASTERN MISSOURI. FROM MID
WEEK ON, THE OPPRESSIVE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO GRADUALLY
EXPAND BACK ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION. A HEAT INDEX OF 105 COULD BE
EXCEEDED IN SOME LOCATIONS.

IF YOU PLAN TO BE OUTSIDE IN THE COMING DAYS, ESPECIALLY MONDAY,
PLANS SHOULD BE MADE TO LOWER YOUR RISK OF HEAT ILLNESS. REDUCED
EXPOSURE TO THE HEAT, FREQUENT BREAKS AND HYDRATION, AND WEARING
LIGHTWEIGHT, LIGHT COLORED CLOTHING ARE ALL IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS
TO AVOID HEAT STRESS, WHICH CAN BECOME LIFE THREATENING. THE
ELDERLY, YOUNG PERSONS WITH PRE-EXISTING HEALTH CONDITIONS AND
PETS SHOULD ALL BE MONITORED DURING PERIODS OF ELEVATED HEAT.
