...HEAT AND HUMIDITY WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THURSDAY FOR PORTIONS
OF THE REGION...

A WEAK COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE REGION TODAY. HEAT INDEX
VALUES WILL TOP OUT FROM 100 TO 105 AHEAD OF IT THIS
AFTERNOON...GENERALLY TO THE SOUTH OF A CARBONDALE ILLINOIS TO
EVANSVILLE INDIANA LINE. SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THE
FRONT MAY PROVIDE ADDITIONAL RELIEF FROM THE HEAT.

A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT WILL BUILD NORTHWARD OVER THE AREA
WEDNESDAY...AS HIGH PRESSURE AT THE SURFACE SETTLES OVER THE
REGION. HEAT INDEX VALUES OF 100 TO 105 ARE FORECAST OVER
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND THE PURCHASE AREA OF WEST KENTUCKY. HEAT
INDICES FROM 100 TO 105 WILL RETURN TO THE ENTIRE REGION ON
THURSDAY...AS WINDS INCREASE FROM THE SOUTHWEST.

A MORE SUBSTANTIAL COLD FRONT EXPECTED TO MOVE THROUGH THE REGION
FRIDAY SHOULD BRING AN END TO THIS EXTENDED PERIOD OF HEAT AND
HUMIDITY.

IN THE MEANTIME...THOSE WITH OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES SHOULD TAKE
FREQUENT BREAKS AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. ALSO MAKE SURE OUTDOOR
PETS HAVE PLENTY OF WATER.
