524 FXZS60 NSTU 100143 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 243 PM SST Thu May 9 2024 .Short term... TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...The cold front will linger near the islands through the weekend. This oscillation of the front axis will at times bring heavy showers over the territory in the next few days. RAOB from this afternoon depicted an unstable profile. Satellite shows most of the deep convections and thunderstorms to the north of Tutuila and Manua. Another area of convections to the northwest of Savaii is slowly moving southeast across the Samoan islands. The ridge to the southwest will continue to strengthen and this will build winds to breezy flow on Friday night before becoming strong on Saturday. .Long term... SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...The shearline will hold widespread showers across the islands on Sunday along with strong trades. Another ridge to the northeast will push the shearline westward on Sunday night. This will slowly diminish and shift winds to breezy east flow. Showers will slightly subside to numerous before becoming scattered on Monday. The strong high pressure to the south will again build strong east winds on Monday night and this will persist through the rest of the long term. Moist easterly flow will continue to bring scattered showers through Thursday. && .Marine... Strong high pressure to the southwest will generate breezy winds and rough seas on the weekend. These rough and hazardous conditions will persist through the rest of the new week.
