.OCTOBER 2017 WAS WARMER THAN NORMAL WITH ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION
AT DULUTH MN...

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR OCTOBER WAS 45.6 DEGREES WHICH WAS 2.4
DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 43.2 DEGREES. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE
FOR THE MONTH WAS 75 DEGREES ON THE 20TH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE WAS
23 DEGREES ON THE 28TH, 29TH, AND 31ST. NO DAILY TEMPERATURE RECORDS
WERE BROKEN FOR THE MONTH. ELEVEN DAYS HAD AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
BELOW NORMAL.

OCTOBER 2017 WAS ABOVE NORMAL FOR PRECIPITATION WITH A TOTAL OF 3.40
INCHES RECORDED FOR THE MONTH. THIS WAS 0.55 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL
OF 2.85 INCHES. THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF PRECIPITATION IN A 24 HOUR
PERIOD OCCURRED ON THE 2ND TO THE 3RD WHEN 1.67 INCHES WAS RECORDED.
AT LEAST A TRACE OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED ON 15 DAYS. AT LEAST
0.01 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL ON 12 DAYS. AT LEAST 0.10 INCHES
FELL ON 6 DAYS. AT LEAST 0.50 INCHES FELL ON 2 DAYS. AT LEAST 1 INCH

OCTOBER 2017 WAS ABOVE NORMAL FOR SNOWFALL WITH A TOTAL OF 11.1
INCHES OF SNOW FOR THE MONTH. THIS WAS 8.8 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL
OF 2.3 INCHES MAKING THIS THE 3RD SNOWIEST OCTOBER IN STATION
HISTORY. THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF SNOWFALL IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD
OCCURRED ON THE 27TH WHEN 10.6 INCHES OF SNOW WAS RECORDED. SEVERAL
SNOWFALL RECORDS WERE BROKEN ON OCTOBER 27 WHEN 10.6 INCHES OF SNOW
WAS RECORDED. THE RECORD OCTOBER SINGLE DAY SNOWFALL WAS SET
BREAKING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 10.0 INCHES SET ON OCTOBER 23, 1933.
THE RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM SNOWFALL WAS SET FOR THE 27TH BREAKING THE
PREVIOUS RECORD OF 4.3 INCHES IN 2010. THE RECORD HIGHEST FIRST
ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL OF THE SEASON WAS SET BREAKING THE PREVIOUS
RECORD OF 7.9 INCHES SET ON OCTOBER 15, 1966.

THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR THE MONTH WAS 10.8 MPH. THE WINDIEST DAY
OF THE MONTH WAS ON THE 27TH WITH AN AVERAGE WIND OF 17.3 MPH. THE
HIGHEST SUSTAINED WIND OCCURRED ON THE 24TH WITH A SPEED OF 33 MPH
OUT OF THE NORTH NORTHWEST. A PEAK WIND GUST OF 47 MPH WAS RECORDED
ON THE 24TH.

THERE WERE 594 HEATING DEGREE DAYS FOR THE MONTH WHICH WAS 84 BELOW
THE NORMAL OF 678. THIS BROUGHT THE SEASONAL TOTAL TO 976 WHICH WAS
149 BELOW THE NORMAL OF 1125. THERE WERE 0 COOLING DEGREE DAYS FOR
THE MONTH WHICH WAS NORMAL. THE SEASONAL TOTAL COOLING DEGREE DAYS
STANDS AT 126 WHICH WAS 78 BELOW THE NORMAL OF 204. THE HIGHEST SEA
LEVEL PRESSURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 30.39 INCHES REACHED ON THE 10TH
AND THE LOWEST SEA LEVEL PRESSURE READING WAS 29.34 INCHES REACHED
ON THE 7TH.

THE OUTLOOK FOR NOVEMBER...NORMAL HIGHS BEGIN IN THE MID 40S AT THE
BEGINNING OF THE MONTH AND COOL TO THE UPPER 20S BY THE END OF THE
MONTH. NORMAL LOWS FOR THE MONTH BEGIN IN THE UPPER 20S AND COOL TO
THE MID TEENS BY THE END OF THE MONTH. NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR
NOVEMBER IS 2.09 INCHES. NORMAL SNOWFALL FOR NOVEMBER IS 13.7 INCHES.
THE LATEST CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER OUTLOOK INDICATES ODDS ARE
SLIGHTLY TILTED TOWARDS BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND ABOVE NORMAL
PRECIPITATION.
