...AUGUST HAD NEAR-RECORD RAINFALL AND NEAR-NORMAL TEMPERATURES IN
OMAHA...

OMAHA EPPLEY AIRFIELD RECEIVED 9.59 INCHES OF RAINFALL DURING THE
MONTH OF AUGUST...WHICH WAS THE 4TH WETTEST AUGUST ON RECORD IN
OMAHA AND WAS 5.77 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF
75.4 DEGREES WAS 0.8 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE EXTREMES OF WARMEST
AND COOLEST DAILY TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE MONTH WERE AMONG THE
LEAST EXTREME ON RECORD...WITH THE COOL EXTREMES WELL ABOVE THE
NORMAL COOLEST EXTREMES IN AUGUST...AND THE WARM EXTREMES WELL BELOW
THE NORMAL WARMEST EXTREMES.

THOUGH THERE WERE A FEW TEMPERATURE SWINGS UP AND DOWN THROUGH THE
MONTH...OVERALL TEMPERATURES IN AUGUST DID NOT DEVIATE FAR FROM
AVERAGE. THE MONTH BEGAN WET...WITH MEASURABLE RAIN ON 9 OF 10 DAYS
THROUGH THE 10TH...BUT TEMPERATURES WERE CLOSE TO AVERAGE. ONE
LONGER COOLER STRETCH ON THE 6TH TO THE 15TH BROUGHT HIGHS IN THE
70S AND LOWER 80S...WITH LOWS IN THE 50S TO 60S. THESE INCLUDED BOTH
THE COOLEST LOW TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH...AT 54 DEGREES ON THE
12TH...AND THE COOLEST HIGH TEMPERATURE...AT 75 DEGREES ON BOTH THE
6TH AND THE 15TH. THIS ALSO WAS ONE OF THE RARE DRY PERIODS IN
AUGUST...WITH ONLY 0.01 INCHES OF RAIN BETWEEN THE 11TH AND THE 20TH.

THE PERIOD WAS FOLLOWED BY A WARMER STRETCH ON THE 16TH TO THE
25TH...WITH THE WARMEST HIGH AND WARMEST LOW TEMPERATURES OF THE
MONTH ON THE 21ST...AT 93 AND 75 DEGREES. FREQUENT RAINS RETURNED
TO THE AREA FROM THE 21ST THROUGH THE REST OF THE MONTH...WITH
MEASURABLE RAIN ON 8 OF 11 DAYS...AND WITH OVER 1.5 INCHES OF
RAINFALL ON THREE CONSECUTIVE DAYS FROM THE 26TH TO THE 28TH.

FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS OF JUNE THROUGH AUGUST...OMAHA EXPERIENCED
WELL ABOVE NORMAL RAINFALL...WITH NEAR-NORMAL TEMPERATURES. THE
TOTAL SUMMER PRECIPITATION OF 21.83 INCHES WAS THE 4TH HIGHEST ON
RECORD AND 10.00 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. RAINFALL THROUGH THE SUMMER
WAS MARKED NEAR-RECORD RAINFALL IN BOTH JUNE AND AUGUST...WITH A DRY
JULY IN BETWEEN. THE AVERAGE SUMMER TEMPERATURE WAS 74.2
DEGREES...WHICH IS JUST SLIGHTLY BELOW THE NORMAL OF 74.4
DEGREES...AND WAS NOTED BY VERY FEW TEMPERATURE EXTREMES THROUGH THE
SUMMER.
