FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
205 PM PDT WED SEP 17 2014

...MILD WITH ELEVATED HUMIDITY THROUGH THURSDAY...
...WARM AND DRY WITH SOME EAST WIND THIS WEEKEND...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...MILD BUT SOMEWHAT MOIST SOUTHWEST FLOW
ALOFT OVER THE REGION THROUGH THURSDAY. THIS KEEPING PLENTY OF
CLOUDS...WITH HIGHER HUMIDITY AND BIT COOLER TEMPERATURES... ALONG
WITH A SCATTERED SHOWERS. MUCH WARMER AND DRIER PATTERN DEVELOPS
SATURDAY...WITH A SHORT-LIVED EAST WIND EVENT.

.DISCUSSION...SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT WILL KEEP THE REGION UNDER
CLOUDS AND MILD AIR MASS. WITH THE LOW OFFSHORE...DO HAVE BIT OF
LIGHT EAST TO SOUTHEAST FLOW ALOFT. THIS BRINGING LOWER HUMIDITY
TO RIDGETOPS ABOVE 2000 FEET. BUT THESE WINDS WILL EASE AND TURN
BACK TO THE SOUTH THIS EVENING.

SHOWERS INCREASING OVER SOUTHWEST OREGON...AND WILL INCREASE OVER
NORTHWEST OREGON INTO THIS EVENING. OVERALL...NOT EXPECTING ANY
THUNDER FOR MOST AREAS...BUT STILL HAVE A VERY SMALL CHANCE OVER
THE HIGH CASCADES FROM MOUNT JEFFERSON SOUTHWARD THIS EVENING AND
AGAIN ON THURSDAY. STILL APPEARS THAT HAVE QUITE A FEW SHOWERS
AROUND THE REGION ON THURSDAY...RAIN RAINFALL WILL BE SPOTTY.

HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD ON FRIDAY...WITH RETURN OF SUNSHINE AND
THE START OF A WARMING TREND. LATEST GUIDANCE SHOWS A THERMAL
TROUGH DEVELOPING ALONG THE SOUTH OREGON COAST FRIDAY EVENING THEN
EXPANDING NORTH FRIDAY NIGHT. ALTHOUGH OFFSHORE LOW-LEVEL FLOW IS
EXPECTED FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY...THIS EPISODE...SHOULD IT
OCCUR...WILL NOT BE NEARLY AS STRONG OR LAST AS LONG AS THE
PREVIOUS EVENT. MODELS SHOW THE THERMAL TROUGH SHIFTING TO THE
CASCADES BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THIS WILL KEEP THE STRONGEST WINDS
IN THE SATURDAY AND SATURDAY EVENING TIME FRAME.

MODELS STILL INDICATE ONSHORE FLOW AND SEASONABLE WEATHER ALONG
WITH AN INCREASING THREAT OF RAIN...YES RAIN...LATER NEXT WEEK.

ROCKEY.
