HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION
NWS ALASKA PACIFIC RIVER FORECAST CENTER ANCHORAGE AK
300 PM AKDT FRI JAN 20 2017

...FLOOD POTENTIAL...

THE FLOOD POTENTIAL IS LOW FOR THE ENTIRE STATE.

...HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION....

THIS WEEKS COLD TEMPERATURES WILL BEGIN TO MODERATE OVER MOST OF THE
MAINLAND THIS WEEKEND AS A MORE ACTIVE PATTERN DEVELOPS ACROSS THE
ALEUTIANS AND GULF AND THE COLDER AIR IS MODIFIED OR PUSHED TO THE
NORTH. THIS ACTIVE PATTERN WILL ALSO BRING INCREASED LIKELIHOOD OF
PRECIPITATION... INITIALLY TO THE SOUTHERN MAINLAND AND SOUTHEAST
ALASKA... AND THEN TO THE REST OF THE STATE.

...SNOW...

REPORTED LOW-MID ELEVATION SNOW DEPTHS ARE GENERALLY 46 INCHES OR
LESS ACROSS THE MAINLAND. REPORTED SNOW DEPTHS HAVE GENERALLY
INCREASED ACROSS MOST OF THE MAINLAND DURING THE PAST WEEK... WITH
THE REGION FROM THE SEWARD PENINSULA NORTH TO UTQIAGVIK (FORMERLY
BARROW) BEING THE EXCEPTION WITH LITTLE CHANGE IN SNOW DEPTH.

...ICE...

ICE THICKNESS MEASUREMENTS FOR THE START OF JANUARY INCLUDE: 16
INCHES IN ANCHORAGE... 19 INCHES AT AMBER LAKE... 9-30 INCHES IN THE
FAIRBANKS AREA... 24 INCHES AT BETHEL... 30 INCHES AT LAKE
MINCHUMINA... 32 INCHES AT BETTLES... 28 INCHES AT EAGLE... AND 28
INCHES AT COLVILLE VILLAGE.

...LONG RANGE...

THE 6 TO 10 DAY TEMPERATURE OUTLOOK HAS INCREASED PROBABILITIES OF
ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES OVER MOST OF MAINLAND ALASKA AND OVER
SOUTHEAST ALASKA. THE EXCEPTIONS ARE OVER THE WESTERN COASTAL
REGIONS... WHICH ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE NEAR NORMAL TEMPERATURES
DURING THIS PERIOD.

THE 6 TO 10 DAY PRECIPITATION OUTLOOK HAS INCREASED PROBABILITIES OF
ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION OVER THE THE ENTIRE STATE.

PLEASE REFER TO THE CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER HOME PAGE FOR FURTHER
INFORMATION.
