THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE Alaska
Avalanche Information Center & Valdez Avalanche Center

ISSUED: A BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING

* TIMING: IN EFFECT FROM 9AM AKST THIS MORNING TO 9AM AKST THURSDAY.

* AFFECTED AREA: THOMPSON PASS AND VALDEZ AREA

* AVALANCHE DANGER: AVALANCHE DANGER IS INCREASING HIGH TO EXTREME

* REASON/IMPACTS: HEAVY SNOW COMBINED WITH WIND WILL CREATE
  WIDESPREAD AREAS OF UNSTABLE SNOW. Thompson Pass has received
  nearly 40 inches snow with approximately 6 inches water
  equivalent since December 2.

PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: LARGE AVALANCHES IN MANY
AREAS

TRAVEL IN AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS NOT RECOMMENDED.

SIMILAR AVALANCHE DANGER MAY EXIST AT LOCATIONS OUTSIDE THIS
COVERAGE AREA
