...RECORD LATEST FIRST FALL FREEZE AT PORTLAND ME...

THIS MORNING... NOVEMBER 4... THE TEMPERATURE FELL TO 29 DEGREES IN
PORTLAND. THIS MARKS THE FIRST TIME THIS FALL THAT THE TEMPERATURE
HAS FALLEN BELOW FREEZING. THIS IS THE LATEST OCCURRENCE OF THE
FIRST FREEZE SINCE RECORDS BEGAN AT THE JETPORT IN PORTLAND IN 1941.
THE PREVIOUS RECORD FOR THE LATEST FIRST FALL FREEZE WAS OCTOBER 25,
2013 AND OCTOBER 25, 1949. THE NORMAL DATE OF FIRST FALL FREEZE IS
OCTOBER 9.

THIS ALSO MARKS THE LONGEST GROWING SEASON ON RECORD AT PORTLAND.
THE LAST FREEZE IN SPRING OCCURRED ON APRIL 20. THERE WERE A TOTAL
OF 197 CONSECUTIVE FREEZE-FREE DAYS IN PORTLAND THIS GROWING SEASON.
THE NORMAL GROWING SEASON LASTS 158 DAYS. THE PREVIOUS LONGEST
GROWING SEASON WAS 1990 WITH 185 CONSECUTIVE DAYS ABOVE FREEZING.
