...GLACIER-DAMMED LAKE RELEASE NEAR MCCARTHY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A RIVER STATEMENT FOR THE
KENNICOTT RIVER NEAR MCCARTHY. NO FLOODING IS EXPECTED AT THIS
TIME.

A GLACIER-DAMMED LAKE...LIKELY HIDDEN CREEK LAKE...IN THE
MOUNTAINS ABOVE MCCARTHY IS RELEASING. WATER LEVELS ON THE
KENNICOTT RIVER BEGAN TO RISE ABRUPTLY LATE MONDAY NIGHT AND HAVE
CONTINUED TO RISE THIS MORNING. AT 815 AM TUESDAY THE WATER LEVEL
ON THE KENNICOTT RIVER NEAR MCCARTHY WAS 22.85 FT. FLOOD STAGE IS
28.0 FT.

THIS LAKE TYPICALLY DRAINS WITHIN 2 DAYS OF INITIAL RELEASE
BEFORE WATER LEVELS BEGIN TO DROP AT THE RIVER GAGE.

THOSE WITH INTERESTS ALONG THE RIVER SHOULD PAY EXTRA ATTENTION
AND PREPARE FOR HIGH WATER DURING THIS UNUSUAL EVENT.

THIS STATEMENT WILL BE UPDATED IF NECESSARY.
