SATELLITE INTERPRETATION MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TIYAN GU
100 AM CHST WED SEP 24 2014

WESTERN NORTH PACIFIC BETWEEN EQUATOR AND 25N FROM 130E TO 180.

A DEVELOPING TROPICAL DISTURBANCE IS CENTERED ABOUT 260 MILES
EAST-NORTHEAST OF SAIPAN NEAR 16N149E. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE OCCURRING SOUTHWEST OF THE DISTURBANCE
OVER GUAM AND ROTA BETWEEN 13N AND 15N FROM 143E TO 147E. THIS
DISTURBANCE IS THE SUBJECT OF A TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION ALERT
ISSUED BY THE JOINT TYPHOON WARNING CENTER UNDER WMO HEADER WTPN21
PGTW. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THIS DISTURBANCE...SEE SPECIAL WEATHER
STATEMENTS ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE UNDER WMO HEADER
WWMY80 PGUM.

A MONSOON TROUGH EXTENDS SOUTHEASTWARD FROM LUZON THROUGH 11N130E TO
A WEAK CIRCULATION CENTERED NORTHWEST OF KOROR NEAR 11N132E...THEN
MEANDERS EASTWARD THROUGH THE AFOREMENTIONED TROPICAL DISTURBANCE
NEAR SAIPAN TO END AT ANOTHER CIRCULATION CENTERED NEAR KWAJALEIN AT
8N167E. CONVERGING WEST WINDS SOUTH AND NEAR THE TROUGH ARE
PRODUCING ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PALAU WITHIN 60 MILES OF A
LINE FROM 8N130E TO 6N137E...AND ALSO NEAR YAP BETWEEN 9N AND 13N
FROM 133E TO 140E. CONVERGING SURFACE WINDS SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST OF
THE DISTURBANCE ARE CAUSING SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS SOUTH OF CHUUK...SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 1N143E TO 5N155E
AND ALSO NORTH OF CHUUK BETWEEN 11N AND 15N FROM 149E TO 155E.
SIMILAR CONDITIONS ARE ALSO SEEN JUST NORTH OF POHNPEI WITHIN 80
MILES OF 9N159E. ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE FOUND SOUTH OF GUAM AND
OVER CHUUK BETWEEN 6N AND 11N FROM 143E TO 155E. ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS ARE PRESENT NEAR THE THIRD CIRCULATION OVER THE
WESTERN MARSHALL ISLANDS BETWEEN 6N AND 12N FROM 163E TO 169E.

A SURFACE TROUGH REACHES NORTHEASTWARD FROM THE TROPICAL DISTURBANCE
NEAR SAIPAN TO BEYOND 25N AT 157E. AN UPPER-LEVEL LOW IS CENTERED
EAST OF THE NORTHER CNMI AT 20N150E. INTERACTION BETWEEN THESE TWO
FEATURES ARE TRIGGERING NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS
SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH OF MINAMI TORI SHIMA WITHIN 130 MILES OF A LINE
FROM 18N149E TO 23N159E.

DIVERGENT UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE GENERATING ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS
WEST OF WAKE ISLAND WITHIN 70 MILES OF A LINE FROM 16N166E TO
20N164E. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EVIDENT
NORTHEAST OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS WITHIN 70 MILES OF A LINE FROM
11N176E TO 14N174E AND ALSO NORTHEAST OF WAKE...NORTH OF A LINE FROM
21N175E TO 23N169E.
