...Water levels are running high along the Lower Arkansas River at La
Recent rain in southeast Colorado along and near the Arkansas River
basin will keep river levels high near La Junta.
River levels are expected to remain within banks...but the high flows
will still be dangerous. Those participating in activities near the
water are advised to use extreme caution. Strong currents could
quickly become a safety hazard.
Following is the latest available information...
Arkansas River At La Junta...
* At 8:15 AM Friday the stage was 10.3 feet.
* Stage is expected to fall to 9.9 feet late Friday evening...
then climb to 10.5 feet Sunday morning.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.
High flows are not uncommon this time of year...but they still pose a
serious threat to persons in or near the water. Each year...high
flows result in mishaps that are sometimes fatal.
Stay away from the banks of rivers and streams. During high water...
saturated banks can easily break off and fall into potentially
deadly...fast flowing water.
