...WATER LEVELS ARE RUNNING HIGH ALONG THE PURGATOIRE RIVER AT LAS
ANIMAS...

HEAVY RAIN FELL THURSDAY NIGHT ALONG THE PURGATOIRE BASIN FROM NEAR
TRINIDAD ACROSS MUCH OF THE REST OF LAS ANIMAS COUNTY.

RIVER LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN WITHIN BANKS...ALTHOUGH MINOR
OVERBANK FLOW IS POSSIBLE IN LOW AREAS FROM 6 PM SATURDAY EVENING
TO SUNDAY EVENING. THE HIGH FLOWS WILL STILL BE DANGEROUS. THOSE
PARTICIPATING IN ACTIVITIES NEAR THE WATER ARE ADVISED TO USE
EXTREME CAUTION. STRONG CURRENTS COULD QUICKLY BECOME A SAFETY
HAZARD.

FOLLOWING IS THE LATEST AVAILABLE INFORMATION...

PURGATOIRE RIVER NEAR LAS ANIMAS...
* AT  6:15 PM FRIDAY THE STAGE WAS 2.6 FEET.
* FLOOD STAGE IS 9.0 FEET.
* NO FLOODING IS CURRENTLY FORECAST.
* EXPECTED TO REACH ACTION STAGE OF 8.0 FEET 6 PM MDT SATURDAY.

HIGH FLOWS ARE NOT UNCOMMON THIS TIME OF YEAR...BUT THEY STILL POSE A
SERIOUS THREAT TO PERSONS IN OR NEAR THE WATER.  EACH YEAR...HIGH
FLOWS RESULT IN MISHAPS THAT ARE SOMETIMES FATAL.

STAY AWAY FROM THE BANKS OF RIVERS AND STREAMS. DURING HIGH WATER...
SATURATED BANKS CAN EASILY BREAK OFF AND FALL INTO POTENTIALLY
DEADLY...FAST FLOWING WATER.
