Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Missoula MT
1234 PM MDT Fri Apr 19 2024

.DISCUSSION...The forecast for the next several days will be a
very fickle spring pattern for the Northern Rockies. Easterly to
northeasterly winds will remain prevalent throughout the day today
and through the first half of Saturday across western Montana and
portions of north central Idaho. As high pressure builds on
Saturday, expect high temps to finally warm to more seasonable
values for this time of year, which range from the mid 50s to mid
60s.

This will not last long, however, as another quick-moving
disturbance brings the return of gusty westerly winds, scattered
showers, and cooler temperatures Sunday into Monday. Gusty winds
on Sunday will pose the threat for increased wave activity on area
lakes, particularly the eastern shores of Flathead Lake, during
the afternoon and evening. A Lake Wind Advisory may be issued in
the coming days should forecast confidence increase in the threat
for persistent gusty winds. Regardless, those with recreation
plans on lakes should take heed to increased chop.

In similar fashion, these conditions will not last long either,
as Tuesday through mid-week look to be fairly pleasant spring days
with highs rising into the 60s for western Montana valleys and
into the 70s for central Idaho valleys.

.AVIATION...Gusty east to northeast winds will be present at most
terminals today, lasting overnight before decreasing after
20/1400Z. With high pressure crossing the Northern Rockies
Saturday, expect more stable conditions, partly to mostly sunny
skies, and warmer temperatures.
