A severe thunderstorm moved southeast across Nichols SC during the early
evening of Saturday, April 20. In the town, the storm uprooted a few large
trees, snapped a few smaller trees, and broke numerous limbs, leading to a
few downed power lines and poles.
The storm moved southeast of town and produced a microburst as it crossed
W. Highway 19 about two and a half miles south of Highway 9. Several trees
were uprooted or snapped in the vicinity of Blanton Family Cemetery. The
microburst continued to the east-southeast along Jarrott Drive, with spotty
tree damage noted along the northern side of the road. Along Highway 9 one-
half mile east of Mt. Olive Church Road, the microburst peeled a large portion
of metal roofing from a barn, and deposited it 75 yards away.
The observed wind damage was consistent with speeds up to 75 mph.
