UPDATED THE START TIME TO THIS AFTERNOON

...STRONG RIP CURRENTS AND ELEVATED SURF ON SOUTH FACING BEACHES
IN ORANGE AND SAN DIEGO COUNTIES THROUGH THURSDAY...

.A LONG PERIOD SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE SWELL WILL BRING ABOVE NORMAL
SURF AND STRONG RIP CURRENTS TO SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST FACING
BEACHES TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY. THE SWELL WILL PRODUCE 4 TO 6
FOOT SURF ON SOUTH FACING BEACHES WITH LOCAL SETS TO 8 FEET IN
ORANGE COUNTY. WEST FACING BEACHES OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY WILL
EXPERIENCE A STRONG SOUTH-TO-NORTH LONGSHORE CURRENT. THE SURF
WILL DIMINISH THURSDAY NIGHT.

EVENING...

* SWELL AND SURF...A 4-FOOT LONG PERIOD SOUTHERLY SWELL FROM 190
  DEGREES WILL GENERATE 4 TO 6 FOOT SURF ON SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST
  FACING BEACHES WITH LOCAL SETS TO 8 FEET. SURF WILL BE HIGHEST
  IN ORANGE COUNTY AND NORTHERN SAN DIEGO COUNTY. SURF SOUTH OF
  CARLSBAD WILL RANGE FROM 3 TO 6 FEET.

* TIMING...TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY

* TIDES...HIGH TIDES WILL BE INCREASING EACH EVENING...REACHING
  6.2 FEET THURSDAY EVENING ACROSS SAN DIEGO AND ORANGE COUNTIES.

* IMPACTS...THERE IS AN INCREASED RISK OF OCEAN DROWNING. RIP
  CURRENTS CAN PULL SWIMMERS AND SURFERS OUT TO SEA. ELEVATED SURF
  AND HIGH TIDES COULD GENERATE MINOR BEACH EROSION AND MINOR
  FLOODING OF LOW LYING FLOOD PRONE AREAS THURSDAY EVENING...POSSIBLY
  PERSISTING INTO FRIDAY EVENING.

A BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IS ISSUED WHEN THREATS SUCH AS STRONG
RIP CURRENTS...ELEVATED SURF HEIGHTS...MINOR TIDAL OVERFLOW...OR
LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE AT LOCAL BEACHES. OBEY POSTED WARNING
SIGNS AND FLAGS AND TALK TO A LIFEGUARD BEFORE SWIMMING. USE
CAUTION WHEN IN OR NEAR THE WATER AND ALWAYS SWIM NEAR A
LIFEGUARD.
