...RECORD WARM FEBRUARY WITH BELOW NORMAL SNOWFALL...

IT WAS AN INCREDIBLY WARM FEBRUARY IN THE FORT WAYNE AREA WITH
SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION AND SNOWFALL THAT WAS WELL BELOW
NORMAL. THE DAILY TEMPERATURES DURING FEBRUARY AVERAGED BELOW NORMAL
ON JUST THREE DAYS WHILE 15 DAYS AVERAGED MORE THAN 10 DEGREES ABOVE
NORMAL. THERE WERE EIGHT DAYS THAT AVERAGED 20 DEGREES OR MORE ABOVE
NORMAL.

THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE WAS 39.8 DEGREES...11.5 DEGREES
ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKED AS THE WARMEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD. THE
PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 38.6 DEGREES SET IN 1930. THE WARMEST
TEMPERATURE WAS 71 ON THE 24TH AND THE COLDEST WAS 11 ON THE 9TH.
THE 71 WAS THE 2ND WARMEST FEBRUARY TEMPERATURE EVER RECORDED IN
FORT WAYNE. THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 49.9
DEGREES. THIS WAS A RECORD...SHATTERING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 45.8
SET IN 1930. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 29.8. THIS RANKED AS
THE 2ND WARMEST MEAN LOW TEMPERATURE FOR FEBRUARY. THERE WERE ONLY
3 DAYS WITH A HIGH TEMPERATURE THAT DID NOT REACH 32 DEGREES.

THERE WAS 1 DAY THIS MONTH WITH A HIGH TEMPERATURE ABOVE 70...THAT
WAS 71 ON THE 24TH. THIS TIES 1996...1999 AND 2000 AS THE ONLY OTHER
YEARS TO HAVE A FEBRUARY HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 70 DEGREES OR WARMER.
THE WARMEST FEBRUARY TEMPERATURE WAS 73 SET IN 2000. THERE WERE 9
DAYS IN FEBRUARY WITH A HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 60 DEGREES OR WARMER.
THIS BROKE THE RECORD OF 7 SET IN 1976 AND 1930 AS THE MOST NUMBER
OF 60 DEGREE DAYS IN FEBRUARY. HALF OF THE DAYS...14...HAD A HIGH
TEMPERATURE OF 50 DEGREES OR WARMER. THIS WAS A RECORD...SURPASSING
1976 WHICH HAD 13 DAYS ABOVE 50 DEGREES.

FEBRUARY PRECIPITATION WAS SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL WITH 1.76 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION BEING RECORDED. THIS WAS 0.28 INCHES BELOW NORMAL AND
RANKED AS THE 56TH DRIEST FEBRUARY. MORE THAN HALF OF THIS
PRECIPITATION FELL ON JUST TWO DAYS...THE 7TH AND 8TH. MEASUREABLE
PRECIPITATION FELL ON 8 DAYS DURING THE MONTH.

MEASURABLE SNOW FELL ON JUST 3 DAYS FOR A TOTAL OF 2.5 INCHES AND
2.3 INCHES FELL ON THE 8TH. THE MONTHLY TOTAL WAS 5.2 INCHES BELOW
NORMAL AND RANKED AS THE 22ND LEAST SNOWIEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD. THE
RECORD IS A TRACE SET IN 1998.
