...FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR THE SAINT JOSEPH RIVER BELOW THE
BUCHANAN DAM IN BERRIEN COUNTY MICHIGAN IN EFFECT THROUGH
THURSDAY AFTERNOON...

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for THE SAINT JOSEPH RIVER BELOW THE
  BUCHANAN DAM IN BERRIEN COUNTY MICHIGAN.

* Through Thursday afternoon

* At 1020 pm EST...the Dam Operator reported that the Buchanan
  Dam was approaching capacity due to high water flows.

* People below the dam should be alert to the possibility that
  the dam could fail. In the meantime...people below the dam
  should be ready to evacuate immediately. The threatened
  Buchanan Dam is upstream of Buchanan and Berrien Springs.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dam safety experts...with state and local emergency services...
are monitoring the dam and will issue a public statement as
conditions warrant. Plan now so you will know what to do in an
emergency. Keep informed by listening to local radio and
television for statements and possible warnings. Follow the
advice of public safety officials.
