LOWER LEVEL RIDGING PROVED INSUFFICIENT IN SUPPRESSING THE
WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS FORMING ON JULY 3RD ACROSS
SOUTHEAST TEXAS. UPPER LEVEL MAPS FROM JULY 3RD SHOW SOUTHEAST
TEXAS TO BE ON THE EDGE OF A PACIFIC RIDGE TO ITS WEST AND A
TROUGH TO ITS EAST WITH A TROUGH AXIS EXTENDING THROUGH CENTRAL
LOUISIANA. CONVECTIVE TEMPERATURES FOR MANY SITES ACROSS THE AREA
WERE IN THE LOWER 90S...AND MOST SITES HAD LITTLE TROUBLE REACHING
AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES AROUND 90 DEGREES F. THE JULY 3RD SURFACE
ANALYSIS REVEALED DEWPOINTS ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS WERE IN THE
70S AND A NUMBER OF BOUNDARIES INCLUDING A COASTAL
TROUGH...OUTFLOW BOUNDARY...AND WEAK COLD FRONT WERE PRESENT IN
THE MORNING THAT BECAME A MAJOR FOCAL POINT FOR CONVECTION
GENERATION IN THE AFTERNOON.

THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS FORMING WERE SUBSEVERE PULSE
THUNDERSTORMS WITH WIDELY VARYING PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS AS SHOWN
IN THE TABLE BELOW OF THE TOP TEN HIGHEST RAINFALL AMOUNTS:
