MISSISSIPPI RIVER

NO ICE WAS REPORTED AT ST ANTHONY FALLS OR LOCK AND DAM 1.  LD2
AT HASTINGS MN REPORTED 100 PERCENT ICE COVERAGE WITH ICE 12 INCHES
THICK. LD3 REPORTED 10 PERCENT ICE COVERAGE WITH ICE 2 INCHES THICK.
LD4 THROUGH LD13 WERE 70 TO 100 PERCENT ICE COVERED WITH
THICKNESSES OF 4 TO 8 INCHES. NO ICE WAS REPORTED AT LD14 WITH A
WATER TEMPERATURE OF 34 DEGREES. NO REPORT WAS RECEIVED FOR LD15.
LD16 THROUGH LD22 WERE 30 TO 100 PERCENT COVERED WITH THICKNESSES
OF 2 TO 5 INCHES.  NO ICE WAS REPORTED AT LD24 THROUGH LD27.

ILLINOIS RIVER SYSTEM (CHICAGO/ILLINOIS R)

THOMAS J O`BRIEN LOCK REPORTED 60 PERCENT ICE COVERAGE WITH
ICE 1 INCH THICK. NO ICE WAS REPORTED AT LOCKPORT LOCK...BRANDON
ROAD...DRESDEN ISLAND...MARSEILLES...STARVED ROCK...OR LA GRANGE...
WITH WATER TEMPERATURES OF 35 TO 44 DEGREES.

REPORTS YESTERDAY SHOWED THAT THE TRIBUTARIES TO THE ILLINOIS
WERE ZERO TO 90 PERCENT ICE COVERED...WITH ICE BREAKING UP IN
MOST LOCATIONS.

OUTLOOK FOR NEXT 7 DAYS:

ABOVE NORMAL AIR TEMPERATURES TODAY AND TONIGHT WILL COOL DOWN TO
NEAR NORMAL TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND...AND FURTHER COOL DOWN
TO BELOW NORMAL NEXT WEEK.  AIR TEMPERATURES WILL STAY BELOW
FREEZING NORTH OF ABOUT LOCK AND DAM 15 THROUGH NEXT WEEK WITH
LOWS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS AND TEENS ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY
NIGHT AND AGAIN NEXT WEEK.  IN THE SOUTH...HIGH AIR TEMPERATURES
WILL GENERALLY BE ABOVE FREEZING WITH ST LOUIS REACHING THE 40S AND
LOW 50S MOST DAYS. LOWS TEMPERAURES IN THE SOUTH WILL GENERALLY BE
BELOW FREEZING.

LOW TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING WERE 18 DEGREES IN ST CLOUD MN...27 IN
THE TWIN CITIES...23 AT LA CROSSE...30 AT ROCK ISLAND...32 DEGREES
AT PEORIA...37 DEGREES AT LD20...AND 42 DEGREES AT ST LOUIS.

STREAMFLOWS ON THE MISSISSIPPI AND ILLINOIS RIVERS REMAIN VERY HIGH
FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR.

BASED ON THESE FACTORS...ICE SHOULD RE-DEVELOP AND THICKEN IN THE
NORTH THROUGH NEXT WEEK. IN THE SOUTH...FROM LD15 THROUGH AROUND
LD 21...LITTLE CHANGE IS EXPECTED THROUGH NEXT WEEK. DOWNSTREAM OF
LD21...ICE SHOULD CONTINUE TO MELT AND BREAK UP.

THE NEXT RIVER ICE STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED ON TUESDAY
FEBRUARY 9 2016.
