..HIGH WATER ON THE PORCUPINE RIVER THIS WEEK...

RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL LAST WEEK IN THE YUKON TERRITORY NEAR
OLD CROW HAS CAUSED THE PORCUPINE RIVER TO RISE TO BANKFULL
LEVELS. THE CREST OF HIGH WATER MOVED PASSED THE RIVER GAGE NEAR
THE ALCAN BORDER ON SUNDAY...AND THIS CREST IS EXPECTED TO REACH
FORT YUKON TODAY. OLD SLOUGHS AND SOME LOW LYING AREAS NEAR THE
PORCUPINE RIVER WILL BE INUNDATED WITH WATER BUT FLOODING IS NOT
EXPECTED IN FORT YUKON. WATER LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO START FALLING
IN FORT YUKON ON WEDNESDAY. IN ADDITION TO THE HIGH WATER...A
SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF DEBRIS WILL BE MOVING DOWN THE RIVER. THE
YUKON RIVER DOWNSTREAM OF FORT YUKON WILL ALSO SEE A SHARP RISE IN
WATER LEVELS AND DEBRIS IN THE RIVER. PEOPLE NEAR THE PORCUPINE
RIVER SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR HIGH WATER.
