...MORE HEAVY RAIN TO SPREAD INTO NORTHERN PANANDLE SATURDAY
NIGHT TO SUNDAY NIGHT...

TWO SEPARATE TRAILING WAVES IN THE UPPER LEVEL FLOW WILL MOVE
ACROSS THE NORTH PACIFIC AND THE GULF ALASKA THEN INTO THE
PANHANDLE OVER THE WEEKEND. EACH WAVE WILL BE USHERING IN A POCKET
OF TROPICAL MOISTURE.

THE FIRST WAVE WILL BE HEADED INTO THE YAKUTAT REGION BY SATURDAY
AFTERNOON AND OVERNIGHT. EXPECTING BETWEEN 2 AND 4 INCHES OF RAIN
OVER 36 HOURS IN YAKUTAT. THE SITUK RIVER IS AT 68.4 FEET AS OF
SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EXPECT THE RAIN TO BRING WATER LEVELS BACK UP
AND MAY APPROACH BANKFULL AS THE GROUND IS ALREADY SATURATED.

A PORTION OF THE FIRST FEATURE WILL START TO SPREAD RAIN INTO THE
COASTAL AREA AROUND CROSS SOUND AND THE NORTHERN PANHANDLE
SATURDAY NIGHT. HEAVIEST RAINFALL FOR THE NORTHERN PANHANDLE WILL
BE SUNDAY MORNING AND THEN CONTINUE INTO SUNDAY NIGHT WHEN THE
SECOND OF THE FEATURES MOVES INLAND OVER THE SOUTHEAST PANHANDLE.
RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE AROUND 2 INCHES FOR A 24 HOUR
PERIOD...WITH ROUGHLY 1 TO 1.5 INCHES FALLING IN A VARIABLE 12
HOUR PERIOD OF SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT. THE REGION AROUND
WRANGELL AND PETERSBURG WILL BE THE LAST AREAS TO PICK UP THE
HEAVIER RAINS SUNDAY NIGHT.

THE TAIYA RIVER NEAR SKAGWAY HAS FALLEN BELOW BANKFULL AND IS
EXPECTED TO RISE AGAIN TO ABOVE MINOR FLOOD STAGE OF 16.5 FEET BY
SUNDAY. MANY OF THE SMALL STREAMS AND RIVERS...INCLUDING MONTANA
CREEK IN JUNEAU...WILL RAPIDLY REFILL AND APPROACH BANKFULL LEVELS
OR POSSIBLY OVERFLOW AS WELL. A FLOOD ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR
BOTH THE TAIYA RIVER NEAR SKAGWAY AND FOR SMALL STREAM AROUND
JUNEAU FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON INTO MONDAY EVENING. PLEASE REFER TO
THESE STATEMENTS FOR MORE INFORMATION.

THIS SITUATION IS BEING MONITORED CLOSELY BY THE JUNEAU FORECAST
OFFICE. LOOK FOR FURTHER UPDATES AND STATEMENTS TO BE ISSUED AS
THE EVENT GETS CLOSER.
