.DISCUSSION...
KEY MESSAGES:
1) An upper ridge builds into the area today and remains over the
area on Wednesday with dry weather and warmer temperatures.
2) A weak cold front on Thursday bring a chance of showers east
and slightly cooler temperatures Friday.
3) Models and ensembles for the most part keep a weekend system
to the south of the forecast area and disagree on whether or not
NE Montana will have any precipitation from it.
WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: High pressure will be over the area
today with mostly clear skies and light winds. Upper ridge will
move in today with warmer temperatures that will be slightly above
normal today and 10 to 15 degrees above normal on Wednesday. A
shortwave trough brings a cold front through the area on Thursday
with slightly cooler temperatures on Friday. Models and ensembles
for the most part track an upper trough to the south of the
forecast area over the weekend. Models and ensembles differ on how
much precipitation there will be over NE Montana. The NBM
currently has blended the differences into a chance of showers at
this point.
CONFIDENCE AND POTENTIAL DEVIATIONS FROM BASE FORECAST:
Confidence is high for clear skies and light winds today and
warmer temperatures. High confidence remains for cold front on
Thursday. Low confidence of precipitation chances over the
