Weather Summary for Portions of the Central Plains
National Weather Service Hastings NE
703 AM CDT Wed May 1 2024

Focusing solely on these next two days across our central and south
central Nebraska and north central Kansas coverage area...BY FAR the
biggest weather concern is the good chance of thunderstorms...some
severe...today into tonight. While the details are a bit murky...we
are generally expecting at least two to three separate rounds of
storms across our coverage area as a whole...with the first round
already underway this morning with a chance of a few hail storms
mainly in Kansas up to around perhaps Interstate 80. However...the
overall more concerning...and potentially more intense storms with a
large hail...damaging wind and localized heavy rain threat will
likely not transpire until the 6 PM to 3 AM time frame. That being
said...there is a possibility that the earlier storms could mute our
local severe storm threat somewhat...especially if they cause a warm
front over Kansas to remain farther south. No matter what...just
remain weather-aware throughout today and tonight...just in case.
Otherwise today...expect a cooler day with high temperatures only in
the 50s and 60s...depending on how thick cloud cover and how
widespread daytime rainfall is. Speaking of rain...at least parts of
our area will likely see at least 1 to 2 inches before tonight is
over with. Briefly looking ahead to tomorrow...the back edge of any
lingering rain should be out of our area by around sunrise...with
the rest of the day dry and quite breezy out of the northwest. High
temperatures tomorrow will top out in the mid 60s to around 70
degrees.
