348 FNUS54 KMAF 071945 FWFMAF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 245 PM CDT Tue May 7 2024 ...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT /8 PM MDT/ THIS EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND WEST TEXAS SOUTH TO THE DAVIS MOUNTAINS... ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND WEST TEXAS SOUTH TO THE PRESIDIO VALLEY... .DISCUSSION... Critical fire weather conditions continue to be dryline dependent, and confined to areas that did not receive rainfall last week. Wednesday, a surface trough strengthens over the region, increasing 20-ft westerlies across the higher terrain. This will combine with single-digit relative humidity and very high to extreme fire danger to yield critical fire weather conditions over the higher terrain. Thursday, this activity looks to be confined to south of the Pecos. No fire weather concerns are anticipated Friday and Saturday, but elevated fire weather conditions may creep back into the picture beginning Sunday, mainly over the higher terrain of West Texas. Recovery overnight will be excellent over parts of the Western Low Rolling Plains, southeast Permian Basin, and lower Trans Pecos, but only poor to moderate elsewhere. Recovery Wednesday night will be excellent over thew extreme northeast, but only poor to moderate elsewhere. Relative humidity will bottom out at 4-14% Wednesday afternoon, and 5-35% Thursday. && For point-specific forecasts please see the Point Fire Weather Matrix product issued by the Midland/Odessa National Weather Service Office.
