...LABOR DAY WIND SWATH AND TORNADOES...

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM SURVEY REVEALED THAT A LINE
SEGMENT THUNDERSTORM PRODUCED MAJOR WIND DAMAGE ACROSS MUCH OF
NORTHERN NEWTON COUNTY.

THE WIND SWATH STARTED IN FAR SOUTHEAST CHEROKEE COUNTY
KANSAS...AND ENDED IN RURAL SOUTHERN LAWRENCE COUNTY MISSOURI.
THE HEAVIEST DAMAGE WAS LOCATED ACROSS NORTHERN NEWTON COUNTY
MISSOURI.

IT WAS DETERMINED THAT WIND SPEEDS WITHIN THIS SWATH OF WIND
RANGED FROM 60 TO 75 MPH. EXCEPTIONAL TREE DAMAGE WAS
OBSERVED...ALONG WITH DAMAGE TO SEVERAL STRUCTURES INCLUDING THE
FAG BEARING PLANT.

DAMAGE WAS ALSO NOTED AT A CAMPGROUND IN REDDINGS MILL. ONE INJURY
RESULTED FROM FROM A RECREATION VEHICLE THAT ROLLED DUE TO STRAIGHT
LINE WINDS THAT WERE ESTIMATED AT 75 MPH.

THREE TORNADOES PATHS WERE DISCOVERED EMBEDDED WITHIN THIS SWATH
OF WIND NEAR SAGINAW AND RURAL NORTHEAST NEWTON COUNTY.

THESE THREE TORNADOES ARE DISCUSSED BELOW.

.SAGINAW 1 TORNADO...

THE SAGINAW 1 TORNADO DEVELOPED NEAR REINMILLER ROAD AND TRACKED
SOUTHEAST TO CEDAR DRIVE. NUMEROUS TREES WERE DAMAGED OR
DESTROYED...INCLUDING ONE TREE THAT WAS THROWN 200 YARDS ACROSS A
HAY MEADOW NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF REINMILLER ROAD AND BIRCH
DRIVE.

THE SAGINAW 2 TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN NEAR JAGUAR ROAD...AND TRACKED
SOUTHEAST TO NEAR HIGHWAY V. NUMEROUS TREES WERE EITHER SNAPPED OR
UPROOTED ALONG ITS PATH.

.NORTHEAST NEWTON COUNTY TORNADO...

THE NORTHEAST NEWTON COUNTY TORNADO WAS VERY SMALL AND DAMAGED A
BARN ALONG WITH A FEW TREES. IT TOUCHED DOWN NEAR VIXEN ROAD AND
TRACKED NORTHEAST TO NEAR HIGHWAY 37.

EF SCALE: THE ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE CLASSIFIES TORNADOES INTO THE
FOLLOWING CATEGORIES.

EF0...WEAK......65 TO 85 MPH
EF1...WEAK......86 TO 110 MPH
EF2...STRONG....111 TO 135 MPH
EF3...STRONG....136 TO 165 MPH
EF4...VIOLENT...166 TO 200 MPH
EF5...VIOLENT...>200 MPH
