...VERY WARM AND DRY AUGUST AT FORT WAYNE...

AUGUST 2016 BEGAN WITH QUIET WEATHER...AND DROUGHT CONDITIONS
DEVELOPING ACROSS THE REGION. NO MEASURABLE PRECIPITATION WAS
RECORDED DURING THE FIRST TEN DAYS OF THE MONTH. A SLIGHTLY MORE
ACTIVE PATTERN EMERGED DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH...HOWEVER MOST
OF NORTHEAST INDIANA AND NORTHWEST OHIO MISSED OUT ON THE BIGGER
RAINFALL TOTALS THAT WERE RECORDED IN NORTHWEST INDIANA.

THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH WAS TORNAODES IN AND AROUND THE FORT
WAYNE AREA. A WEAK TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN NORTH OF FORT WAYNE ON THE
20TH. A BIGGER TORNADO OUTBREAK ON THE 24TH BROUGHT SEVERAL
DESTRUCTIVE TORNADOES TO NORTHEAST INDIANA AND NORTHWEST OHIO. THE
MOST NOTABLE TORNADO WAS AN EF-3 THAT TOUCHED DOWN IN NORTHEAST
ALLEN COUNTY...WITH ESTIMATED WINDS OF 160 MPH. THIS WAS THE
STRONGEST TORNADO OBSERVED IN THE REGION FOR OVER A DECADE.

OVERALL...IT WAS A WARM MONTH AT FORT WAYNE. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
FOR AUGUST WAS 75.6...WHICH IS 4.1 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS IS THE
9TH WARMEST AUGUST ON RECORD AT FORT WAYNE. THE AVERAGE HIGH
TEMPERATURE WAS 85.4 DEGREES AND THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS
65.7. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE RECORDED WAS 94 ON THE 10TH AND THE
COLDEST TEMPERATURE RECORDED WAS 54 ON THE 23RD. THERE WERE 7 90
DEGREE DAYS IN AUGUST...THE MOST IN AUGUST SINCE 1995.

3.06 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL IN AUGUST. THIS IS 0.58 INCHES
BELOW NORMAL...TIED FOR THE 52ND DRIEST AUGUST SINCE 1912. THE
GREATEST 24 HOUR TOTAL WAS 0.96 ON THE 24TH AND 25TH. MEASURABLE
RAIN FELL ON 11 OF THE LAST 21 DAYS OF THE MONTH...BUT ONLY 2 DAYS
RECORDED A HALF INCH OR MORE.
