Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
Nantional Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
533 AM CDT Thu Mar 23 2017

...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON CDT /11 AM MDT/
TODAY TO 1 AM CDT /MIDNIGHT MDT/ FRIDAY FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF
15% OR LESS, 20 FOOT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND HIGH TO EXTREME
FIRE DANGER FOR THE GUADALUPE, DAVIS, AND APACHE MOUNTAINS,
SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO PLAINS, VAN HORN AND THE HIGHWAY 54 CORRIDOR,
REEVES COUNTY AND THE UPPER TRANS PECOS, AND LOVING, WINKLER,
WARD, PECOS, PRESIDIO, AND BREWSTER COUNTIES...

.DISCUSSION...

Today is still on track to be very dry and very windy across
Southeast New Mexico and the Trans Pecos. Some fuels will
approach the 90th percentile and, combined with periods of extreme
fire weather, the potential for significant fires will be moderate
to near high. Large, problematic fires are possible. It will be
very windy farther east, but south winds will advect moisture into
the Permian Basin, keeping relative humidities above 15 percent.
Still, initial attack potential will increase. A line of storms
will form along a pacific front/dryline near the Lea/Gaines County
line and move east/southeast in the evening. A Red Flag Warning is
in effect areas west of the dryline. Critical fire weather is
expected again Friday and Sunday.
