   REACHED THIS AFTERNOON IN BOTH COLUMBIA SC AND AUGUSTA GA...

A COMBINATION OF WEAK ATMOSPHERIC SINKING MOTION...LOW RELATIVE
HUMIDITIES FROM WEST-SOUTHWEST BREEZES...AND THE STRENGTH OF EARLY
JULY SUNSHINE HAS PRODUCED HIGH TEMPERATURE READINGS TODAY ACROSS
PORTIONS OF EAST-CENTRAL GEORGIA AND CENTRAL SOUTH CAROLINA.

AT COLUMBIA METRO AIRPORT...THE TEMPERATURE HAS TOPPED OUT AT
100 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS NOT A DAILY RECORD--
THE HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD FOR JULY 8TH IN COLUMBIA IS 105 DEGREES
SET IN 1977--IT IS THE FIRST TIME THE CENTURY MARK HAS BEEN REACHED
SINCE JULY 27TH IN 2012.

AT AUGUSTA REGIONAL AIRPORT/BUSH FIELD...THE TEMPERATURE HAS TOPPED
OUT AT 98 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON. THIS TIES THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE
SO FAR THIS SEASON WHICH WAS FIRST REACHED ON JULY 3RD--THURSDAY OF
LAST WEEK. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD FOR JULY 8TH IN AUGUSTA IS
104 DEGREES FIRST SET IN 1977. THE MOST RECENT TIME THE CENTURY MARK
WAS REACHED IN THE AUGUSTA AREA WAS JULY 26TH OF 2012 (103 DEGREES).
