BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
SPECIAL AVALANCHE ADVISORY
COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER
RELAYED BY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DENVER/BOULDER CO
224 PM MDT FRI MAY 19 2017

THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE
COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER.

THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS ISSUED A SPECIAL
AVALANCHE ADVISORY

A STRONG SPRING STORM DEPOSITED FROM 1 TO 3 FEET OF SNOW OVER THE
LAST FEW DAYS. DEEPEST ACCUMULATIONS WERE IN THE Northern MOUNTAINS.
BACKCOUNTRY TRAVELERS ALREADY TRIGGERED AVALANCHES IN THE STORM SNOW
ON THURSDAY. EXPECT DANGEROUS AVALANCHE CONDITIONS TO PERSIST
THROUGH THE WEEKEND. ANY SLOPE STEEPER THAN ABOUT 30 DEGREES WITH
MORE THAN ABOUT 8 INCHES OF RECENT SNOW HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE
AVALANCHES LARGE ENOUGH TO INJURE OR BURY A PERSON.

* TIMING...IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM FRIDAY UNTIL 5 PM ON SUNDAY 05/21/2017

* AFFECTED AREA...SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS...SAWATCH RANGE...MOSQUITO
  RANGE...PIKES PEAK...AND FRONT RANGE

* AVALANCHE DANGER...CONTINUES THROUGH SUNDAY...HUMAN-TRIGGERED
  AVALANCHES ARE LIKELY AND NATURAL AVALANCHES ARE POSSIBLE.

* REASON...RECENT SNOWFALL AND DRIFTING CREATED DANGEROUS AVALANCHE
  CONDITIONS.

* PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...DANGEROUS STORM SLAB
  AVALANCHES ARE LIKELY. LOOSE WET AVALANCHES WILL BECOME MORE
  FREQUENT OVER THE WEEKEND. YOU CAN REDUCE YOUR RISK OF BEING
  CAUGHT IN A DEADLY AVALANCHE BY STAYING OFF OF AND OUT FROM UNDER
  ALL SLOPES STEEPER THAN 30 DEGREES. CAUTIOUS ROUTE FINDING AND
  CONSERVATIVE DECISION MAKING ARE ESSENTIAL.
