...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 4 AM
PST THURSDAY...

THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO
4 AM PST THURSDAY.

* TIMING: SNOW...AND SNOW AND RAIN NEAR LAKE LEVEL...WILL BEGIN BY
  MIDDAY WITH RATES INCREASING IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. ANY
  RAIN WILL CHANGE TO SNOW AT LAKE LEVEL THIS EVENING...WITH
  MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL CONTINUING THROUGH EARLY THURSDAY
  MORNING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 8 TO 16 INCHES ABOVE 7000 FEET WITH 4 TO 8
  INCHES AT LAKE TAHOE LEVEL...6 TO 12 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE
  WEST OF HIGHWAY 89.

* WINDS: SOUTHWEST 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS 30 TO 45 MPH.

* SNOW LEVELS: RISING TO AROUND 6500 FEET THIS MORNING...DROPPING
  BELOW 6000 FEET BETWEEN 5 AND 8 PM.

* WAVE HEIGHTS ON LAKE TAHOE: 1 TO 3 FEET IN THE MORNING WITH
  HEIGHTS 2 TO 4 FEET IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGHEST WAVES WILL BE
  FROM MID LAKE TO NORTHEASTERN SHORES.

* IMPACTS: EXPECT DIFFICULT TRAVEL WITH SLICK ROADS...FIRST OVER
  DONNER...ECHO...AND MOUNT ROSE SUMMITS THIS AFTERNOON FOLLOWED
  BY IN THE TAHOE BASIN STARTING THIS EVENING. AVALANCHE DANGER WILL
  INCREASE DUE TO HEAVIER...WET SNOW. SMALL BOATS, KAYAKS AND
  PADDLE BOARDS WILL BE PRONE TO CAPSIZING AND SHOULD REMAIN OFF
  LAKE WATERS UNTIL CONDITIONS IMPROVE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

EVEN LIGHT SNOWFALL CAUSES MAJOR TRAVEL DELAYS, ESPECIALLY DURING
PERIODS OF HIGH TRAFFIC VOLUME. WINDS WILL CREATE PERIODS OF
WHITEOUT CONDITIONS MAKING TRAVEL DIFFICULT AT TIMES. BE SURE TO
ALLOW EXTRA TIME TO REACH YOUR DESTINATION. LEAVE EXTRA SPACE
BETWEEN VEHICLES SINCE IT TAKES LONGER TO STOP ON SLICK ROADWAYS.

  UP TO 4 INCHES EAST OF HIGHWAY 395.

* SNOW LEVELS: BEGINNING AROUND 5500 FEET EARLY TODAY BEFORE
  DROPPING TO 4500 FEET LATE THIS AFTERNOON.

* IMPACTS: EXPECT HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS DUE TO SLICK
  ROADS AND PERIODS OF VERY LOW VISIBILITY FROM WIND DRIVEN
  SNOW.
