.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

Except for a pocket of low clouds over the coastal waters west of
San Diego County this morning, skies were clear across Southern
California. The 12Z NKX sounding showed a Precipitable Water of a
relatively low 0.59", It also showed northwest winds from 20-40 kts
above 700 mb. Some of that wind energy will mix down to the surface
in the mountains and deserts where it will be a breezy day with
sustained winds of 15-30 mph gusting 40-50 mph through the San
Gorgonio Pass and into the northern Coachella Valley. This northwest
flow aloft shifts northeast on Wednesday and Thursday as a closed
low forms over the Nevada. This offshore flow pattern will bring a
period of north to northeast winds to the deserts and the mountains
tomorrow, some of which will funnel through the Cajon Pass and the
San Gorgonio Pass into the Inland Empire.

West of the mountains, a coastal eddy spins up tonight which will
bring low clouds and fog to the coastal zones through tomorrow
morning. The low clouds will dissipate in most areas by late
morning, but linger at some of the beaches through the afternoon.
The eddy continues Wednesday night with low clouds returning to the
coastal zones before retreating back the coast in the afternoon,
again lingering near the beaches most of the day.

For Friday through Sunday the models show a large closed upper low
over the Southwest meandering slowly eastward from Nevada on Friday
to Utah on Sunday. This places SoCal on the west side of the upper
low with predominately weak north to northeast flow aloft and
overall seasonal weather.
