AFTERNOON LOW LEVEL WIND FORECAST
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TOPEKA KS

...SHAWNEE COUNTY...

.DISCUSSION...

AVIATION...(FOR THE 18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z SUNDAY AFTERNOON)
ISSUED AT 1157 AM CST SAT JAN 30 2016

AMENDMENT IS TO ADD FU FOR THE LOCAL KTOP AREA DUE TO AN ONGOING
FIRE EXPECTED TO AFFECT AVIATION VIS THIS AFTERNOON. WINDS SHOULD
BACK THROUGHOUT THE 18Z FORECAST PERIOD PROGRESSIVELY FROM A
SOUTHERLY TO A MORE NNW DIRECTION BY MORNING. HAVE LOWERED STRATUS
DECK TO AROUND 5KFT INTO THE OVERNIGHT AND MORNING HOURS FOR
SUNDAY MORNING. DUE TO A MIXED BOUNDARY LAYER, ESPECIALLY WITH
INCREASING WINDS BY MORNING, THE THOUGHT IS THAT STATUS IS FAVORED
OVER ANYTHING TOO LOW SUCH AS FOG. ALSO, LACK OF SIGNIFICANT
MOISTURE IN THE LOW TO MID LEVELS PROBABLY NOT CONDUCIVE TO ANY
PRECIP ACTUALLY CONDENSING TO THE POINT OF FALLING OUT OF THE
CLOUDS. THERE IS A SMALL CHANCE OF CIGS/VIS BEING LOWER FOR A
PERIOD, BUT CONFIDENCE AGAIN TOO LOW AT THIS TIME TO GO TO MVFR.
SOMETHING FOR PLANNERS TO BE AWARE OF THOUGH AND GET UPDATES IF
MORE MOISTURE IS ACTUALLY AVAILABLE THAN EXPECTED AT THIS TIME.
