...SHAWNEE COUNTY...

.DISCUSSION...

AVIATION...(FOR THE 06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z TUESDAY)
ISSUED AT 1123 PM CST SUN JAN 31 2016

NOT A LOT OF CHANGE TO THE FORECAST. 00Z RAOB FROM TOP SHOWED A
FAIR AMOUNT OF DRY AIR LEFT TO OVERCOME AND RADAR RETURNS OVER
SOUTHEAST KS HAVE YET TO REACH THE GROUND WITH OBS SHOWING CIGS IN
THE 9 TO 11 KFT RANGE. THEREFORE THINK VFR CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL
THROUGH TONIGHT AND MONDAY MORNING. CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORATE
MONDAY EVENING AS STRONG FORCING AND MOISTURE MOVE OVER THE
REGION. THE NAM FORECAST SOUNDINGS SHOW PRECIP IN THE EVENING AT
TOP SHOULD BE ALL RAIN AND IS MARGINAL FOR SNOW AT MHK. SINCE THE
NAM HAS BEEN THE COLDEST SOLUTION, HAVE OPTED TO ONLY MENTION RAIN
AT MHK AS THE GFS FORECAST SOUNDINGS ARE PLENTY WARM FOR ALL RAIN.
THERE IS A CHANCE FOR IFR CONDITIONS TO DEVELOP PRIOR TO 06Z, BUT
CONFIDENCE IN TIMING IS NOT HIGH ENOUGH TO MENTION IT FOR AN HOUR
OR SO AT THE END OF THE FORECAST PERIOD.
