SPRING 2014 WAS COLDER THAN NORMAL IN PORTLAND... WITH THE COLD
WINTER CONDITIONS SPILLING OVER WELL INTO THE SPRING. MARCH WAS THE
4TH COLDEST ON RECORD... WITH A RECORD 10 DAYS OF SUBFREEZING
TEMPERATURES. DESPITE NOT SEEING MUCH NEW SNOWFALL THIS SPRING...
THE WINTER SNOWPACK STAYED ON THE GROUND UNTIL APRIL 6TH. WARMER
WEATHER FINALLY ARRIVED IN MAY... WITH PORTLAND SEEING A WARMER
THAN NORMAL MONTH FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE OCTOBER.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR SPRING 2014 WAS 41.7 DEGREES. THIS WAS
2.1 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL AND THE COLDEST SPRING SINCE 2005. IN
FACT... PORTLAND HAD NOT SEEN A COOLER THAN NORMAL SPRING SINCE
2008. THE WARMEST SPRING EVER WAS 2010 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
OF 48.9. THE COOLEST SPRING WAS 1956 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF
37.9.

10.90 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL. THIS WAS 1.67 INCHES BELOW
NORMAL. THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION FELL ON MARCH 28 THROUGH 31 WHEN
2.38 INCHES FELL OVER THE 4 DAY PERIOD. THE WETTEST SPRING ON RECORD
WAS 1983 WITH 22.55 INCHES. THE DRIEST SPRING WAS 1965 WITH ONLY
4.23 INCHES.

A TOTAL OF 4.9 INCHES OF SNOW FELL THIS SPRING. THIS WAS 10.6 INCHES
BELOW NORMAL. THIS WAS THE LEAST SNOWY SPRING SINCE 2010 WHEN ONLY
0.1 FELL. THE SNOWIEST SPRING EVER WAS 1906 WITH 61.5 INCHES. THE
LEAST SNOW FOR THE SPRING SEASON WAS ONLY A TRACE IN 1921 AND 1910.
