...The risk for additional rock and mudslides will continue for
Clearwater and Idaho Counties in Idaho due to the combination of
rain on top of snowmelt...
As of noon today, rain gauges show about 0.50 - 0.75" of moisture
has fallen in many areas across Clearwater and Idaho county. Rain
will decrease briefly this afternoon but will return this evening
and will likely continue through Wednesday morning. A brief break
in precipitation is possible Wednesday afternoon, but another
strong surge of moisture will return Wednesday night. An additional
rainfall of 0.80 - 1.25" are likely for central Idaho valleys by
Thursday morning with higher amounts of around 2.00" possible in
favored locations like Pierce and along the highway 12 corridor.
Snow levels will continue to be around 7000 feet through Wednesday
afternoon. Steep highway corridors and other county and private
roads will continue to be susceptible to rock and mudslides. The
rain and added snowmelt runoff on top of saturated soils will add
to the concerns in Clearwater County and Idaho County.
Additionally, significant rises in area creeks and rivers are
expected throughout this week. One river of concern will be the
South Fork Clearwater River at Stites. The current forecast has
the South Fork Clearwater River rising to just below flood stage.
