FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STATE COLLEGE PA
456 AM EST SUN DEC 11 2016

.DISCUSSION...

PERIODS OF LIGHT SNOW WILL SPREAD ACROSS THE DISTRICT TODAY AS
A SERIES OF RELATIVELY WEAK DISTURBANCES ALOFT TRACK EAST FROM
THE OHIO VALLEY. A LAYER OF WARMER AIR ALOFT WILL STREAM
NORTHEAST OVER THE AREA TONIGHT...CAUSING THE SNOW TO CHANGE
OVER TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN...MAINLY AFTER MIDNIGHT.

SOME LIGHT RAIN OR FREEZING RAIN WILL OCCUR MONDAY MORNING
BEFORE A COLD FRONT SWEEPS EAST ACROSS THE STATE...FOLLOWED
BY A BRISK WEST NORTHWEST WIND AND SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS.

FAIR AND DRY WEATHER WILL FOLLOW FOR TUESDAY AND MUCH OF
WEDNESDAY. AN ARCTIC FRONT WILL PLOW SOUTHEAST THROUGH THE
STATE LATE WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...FOLLOWED BY
BITTERLY COLD AIR ALONG WITH NUMEROUS SNOW SHOWERS AND
SCATTERED SNOW SQUALLS. THURSDAY WILL FEATURE BRUTALLY
COLD WIND CHILLS BELOW ZERO IN THE MOUNTAINS...AND BARELY
IN THE SINGLE DIGITS THROUGHOUT THE CENTRAL RIDGE AND VALLEY
REGION. WIND GUSTS COULD TOP 40 MPH AT TIMES THURSDAY WITH
HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 25 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.
