Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Northern Alabama
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
439 AM CST Fri Feb 24 2017

.DISCUSSION...
Partly to mostly cloudy conditions will be present across the area
this morning, with generally light southeast winds. Wind speeds
will gradually increase toward daybreak and then become gusty
shortly after sunrise with the onset of deep mixing. Winds may gust
to around 20 mph as early as 10 AM, especially in northwestern and
north central Alabama. Valley locations in northeast Alabama may
experience lighter winds through most of the morning. Showers and
thunderstorms will develop to our west late this afternoon and then
move across northern Alabama during the evening into the early
morning hours on Saturday. A few storms could become strong to
severe. A cold front will move across the area overnight with winds
shifting from southwest to northwest. Winds may be gusty after the
passage of the front with gusty northwest winds continuing into
Saturday. Conditions will remain cool on Sunday with relative
humidity values falling generally into the 25 to 30 percent range
during the afternoon.

Fog potential over the next few days: Fog is not expected over the
weekend.

Potential for Red Flag Conditions: A much drier air mass will move
into the area this weekend. Relative humidity values will fall to
near 30 percent on Saturday afternoon and may fall below 25 percent
briefly at some locations, mainly in northeastern Alabama on Sunday
afternoon. Sustained wind speeds may approach 15 mph on Saturday
afternoon, but winds will be lighter on Sunday. KBDI values are
still well below 200, so there is no risk of reaching Red Flag
criteria this weekend.
