Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southwestern California
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
931 AM PDT Tue May 23 2017

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS INTERIOR AREAS THROUGH
WEDNESDAY...

...GUSTY SOUTHWEST WINDS INTERIOR SECTIONS WEDNESDAY THROUGH
FRIDAY...

.DISCUSSION...
High pressure aloft will continue to bring warmer (highs 85-95) and
drier (minimums 10-25 percent) than normal conditions to areas away
from the coast through early Wednesday. Winds will be light in the
morning hours, but afternoon and evening onshore flow will be locally
breezy (focused over interior sections) each afternoon and evening.
This will result in elevated fire weather conditions for interior
areas each afternoon and evening through Wednesday. Lingering dry air
aloft and gusty onshore winds may lead to continuing elevated fire
weather conditions into Thursday for the mountains above 6000 feet.

Low pressure will slowly form over the area Wednesday through
Friday...bringing a cooling and marine layer deepening trend.
Initially on Wednesday, unstable air over the mountains with limited
moisture will create an outside chance (10 percent) of a
thunderstorm. This change will also bring gusty to strong southwest
winds over the interior sections, with gusts in the 35 to 50 mph
range common in the afternoon hours. The rapidly deepening marine
layer may also bring patchy drizzle to coastal slopes Thursday or
Friday morning. High pressure should build back over the district
this weekend into early next week with warmer and drier conditions
expected.
