Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NW Oregon and SW Washington
National Weather Service Portland OR
850 AM PDT Thu May 25 2017

...940 am briefings to begin Tuesday, May 30th...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...An upper level trough will drop south
through eastern Washington and Oregon today, bringing a slight
chance for showers and thunderstorms to the Cascades. The low
level onshore flow will be weaker today and in the next few days
as a ridge of high pressure aloft builds over the Pacific
Northwest, resulting in warming temperatures through the weekend.

.DISCUSSION...Onshore flow weakens today as an upper level trough
of low pressure from southern British Columbia moves south
through Washington and Oregon. This will put a slight chance for
showers and thunderstorms over to the Cascades this afternoon and
evening. Just a weak low level onshore flow continues through the
weekend as an upper level ridge builds in. This will warm
temperatures back above normal for the weekend and into early next
week, and push mid level Haines values over the Cascades back to
Haines 6 values. A chance for Cascade thunderstorms returns late
Sunday and continues through early next week as the upper ridge
moves east and a southerly flow develops aloft. Temperatures are
also likely to modify some by midweek as low level onshore flow
increases again.
