FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
249 PM PDT FRI MAY 29 2015

NOTE: DAILY FIRE WEATHER BRIEFING CALLS WILL BEGIN MONDAY JUNE 1ST
AT 940 AM. PHONE NUMBER AND PASSCODE WILL BE THE SAME AS IT WAS LAST
YEAR. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CALL OR HOW TO ACCESS
IT...PLEASE CONTACT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN PORTLAND.

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...UPPER LEVEL RIDGING WILL LEAD TO WARM AND
DRY CONDITIONS IN PLACE THROUGH SATURDAY. THE MARINE LAYER IS
SHALLOW...SO EXPECT ONLY WEAK INLAND MARINE INTRUSIONS EACH OF
THE NEXT COUPLE OF MORNINGS. INSTABILITY TO INCREASE DURING THE
AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING HOURS TODAY AND SATURDAY LEADING TO
CUMULUS BUILDUPS AND SOME THUNDERSHOWERS NEAR THE CASCADE CREST.
ALLOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE NEAR SHORE SUNDAY...BRINGING A
CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS SUNDAY NIGHT AND A RETURN TO COOLER AND
SHOWERY WEATHER FOR EARLY NEXT WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...DRY AND WARMER THAN AVERAGE WEATHER CONTINUES
TODAY WITH UPPER LEVEL RIDGING OVER THE REGION. THE EXCEPTION
IS ALONG THE COAST AND COASTAL VALLEYS...WHERE WEAK ONSHORE FLOW
IS KEEPING CONDITIONS CLOUDY AND MUCH COOLER. CUMULUS BUILDUPS
HAVE BEEN OCCURRING ALONG AND EAST OF THE CASCADE CREST THIS
AFTERNOON...AND SOME THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT IS OCCURRING ON THE
EAST SIDE OF THE CREST OVER THE PAST HOUR OR SO. THERE IS STILL A
CHANCE THAT WE WILL SEE A FEW STORMS POP UP ON OUR SIDE OF THE
CREST...BUT GIVEN A LITTLE STRONGER SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW ALOFT...THE
BULK OF THE ACTIVITY SHOULD REMAIN EAST OF THE CREST.

HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN IN CONTROL SATURDAY. HIGH CLOUDS WILL
BEGIN TO FILTER IN AHEAD OF THE NEXT APPROACHING LOW PRESSURE
SYSTEM...BUT DESPITE THIS...EXPECT TEMPERATURES WILL BE SIMILAR
TO TODAY IF MAYBE A DEGREE OR TWO COOLER. EXPECT HIGHS AGAIN TO
REACH INTO THE LOW TO MID 80S FOR THE INTERIOR LOWLANDS AND INTO
THE 70S OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN. THE FCST SOUNDINGS CONTINUE TO
INDICATE SOME LINGERING INSTABILITY OVER THE LANE COUNTY CASCADES
DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING...SO WILL KEEP A SLIGHT
CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THE CREST. A LOW LEVEL SUBSIDENCE
INVERSION SATURDAY LOOKS LIKE IT WILL CREATE QUITE DRIER CONDITIONS
OVER THE HIGHER SLOPES OF THE COAST RANGE AND CASCADES WITH
LIMITED RECOVERIES SATURDAY NIGHT.

THE NEXT LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL APPROACH THE REGION
SUNDAY...BRINGING INCREASING CLOUDS AND MOISTURE. PATTERN
RECOGNITION WOULD SUGGEST POTENTIAL FOR ELEVATED THUNDERSTORM
ACTIVITY SUNDAY NIGHT. THE 12Z NAM SEEMS TO BE TRENDING TOWARD
THIS IDEA...BUT THERE IS STILL QUITE A BIT OF UNCERTAINTY. FOR NOW
WILL MAINTAIN A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE CASCADES...BUT
THUNDERSTORMS FURTHER WEST OVER THE LOWLANDS ARE NOT OUT OF THE
QUESTION. EXPECT THE LOW PRESSURE TO MOVE ONSHORE AND USHER IN
MUCH COOLER AND SHOWERY WEATHER EARLY NEXT WEEK. PYLE
