Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
342 PM EST Sun Feb 19 2017

.DISCUSSION...

High pressure will build over the region tonight, and shift closer
to the coast by late Monday afternoon. By Tuesday afternoon, the
high will be off the coast, and southerly flow will start to
increase with the approach of a cold front. The front will bring
patchy light rain showers to the area Tuesday night into early
Wednesday morning. The chance of wetting rain from this feature
is small, with southeast West Virginia having the greatest potential
at 25 to 35 percent.

Monday is be the best day for prescribed burns this week.
No precipitation is forecast. Skies will be sunny, or the sun will be
filtered through some thin cirrus clouds. Daytime minimum relative
humidities will be in the 25 to 35 percent range. If there is a limiting
factor on Monday it will be the winds. Both at twenty feet and transport
levels, they will be on the weak side, and gradually changing their
direction throughout the day as the center of the ridge axis moves across
the area.

Tuesday will have better ventilation as the prevailing flow begins to
increase from the southwest. However, those same winds will start
advecting more moisture into the area. Minimum relative humidities
will range from 45 to 55 percent, and skies will be mostly cloudy by the
afternoon.
