...DALLAS/FORT WORTH CLIMATE NARRATIVE FOR JANUARY 2015...

THE FIRST HALF OF JANUARY WAS AMONG THE COLDEST ON RECORD FOR
DALLAS/FORT WORTH. ON NEW YEARS DAY...FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET FELL
IN THE METROPLEX. A CHILLY RAIN FOLLOWED ON JANUARY 2 AND 3. ON
JANUARY 8...THE TEMPERATURE FELL INTO THE TEENS AT DFW AIRPORT FOR
THE FIRST TIME THIS WINTER.

ON JANUARY 16...DFW REACHED 60 DEGREES FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2015.
DURING THE FINAL 16 DAYS OF THE MONTH...THERE WERE 12 DAYS WITH
HIGHS IN THE 60S OR WARMER...INCLUDING 80 DEGREES ON JANUARY 28.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE DURING THE LAST 2 WEEKS OF JANUARY WAS 16
DEGREES WARMER THAN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE FIRST 2 WEEKS OF
THE MONTH. THE MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH AS A WHOLE WAS 1.4
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.

THE JANUARY PRECIPITATION TOTAL AT DFW AIRPORT WAS ALMOST 1.5 INCHES
ABOVE NORMAL. THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND ABOVE NORMAL MONTHLY TOTAL
SINCE 2013. (AUGUST 2014 WAS THE OTHER.) LONG TERM DEFICITS ACROSS
THE METROPLEX ARE GENERALLY 40 TO 50 INCHES.
