FIRE DANGER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BROWNSVILLE TX
513 AM CST THU FEB 23 2017

...ELEVATED THREAT OF ERRATIC FIRE BEHAVIOR TODAY...

THERE IS AN ELEVATED THREAT OF ERRATIC FIRE BEHAVIOR BEGINNING
LATE THIS MORNING AND CONTINUING THROUGH 6 PM. THERE IS ALSO A
THREAT FOR ENHANCED WILDFIRE GROWTH AND RAPID SPREAD POTENTIAL.

EXTREMELY DRY CONDITIONS REMAIN IN PLACE ACROSS DEEP SOUTH TEXAS.
RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES WILL BE IN THE SINGLE DIGITS TO LOWER
TEENS ACROSS MUCH OF THE WESTERN HALF OF THE VALLEY. HOWEVER...THE
20-FOOT WINDS SHOULD REMAIN BELOW CRITICAL THRESHOLD.

AREAS TOWARDS THE COAST WILL HAVE HIGHER RH VALUES IN THE UPPER
TEENS TO MID 30S. HOWEVER...THE 20-FOOT WINDS WILL BE HIGHER IN
THESE AREAS...NEAR OR JUST BELOW THE CRITICAL THRESHOLD OF 15
MPH WITH GUSTS TO 20 MPH. THIS ESPECIALLY TRUE ACROSS
CAMERON...WILLACY AND KENEDY COUNTIES.

EXTREMELY WARM HIGH TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE REGION WILL ADD TO
THE CONCERN FOR ERRATIC FIRE BEHAVIOR AND THE POTENTIAL FOR
WILDFIRES TO QUICKLY BECOME OUT OF CONTROL. EXTREME CAUTION IS
URGED IF BURNING ANYWHERE IN DEEP SOUTH TEXAS TODAY.

THE THREAT WILL DIMINISH BY THIS EVENING AS WIND SPEEDS DECREASE
AND TEMPERATURES BEGIN TO COOL ALLOWING RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES
TO RECOVER.
