...NWS Damage Survey Summary for Eastern Oklahoma and Northwestern
Arkansas April 26-27th Tornadoes...

.Overview...A line of severe thunderstorms moved through eastern
Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas during the evening of April 26th
and early morning hours of April 27th. Very strong low level wind
shear and moderately strong instability ahead of the line promoted
the development of tornadoes from some of the storms embedded in the
line as well as damaging wind gusts. A number of the damaged areas
were assessed by NWS Tulsa meteorologists on Wednesday and Thursday
and their findings follow.

Other areas were surveyed where damage occurred, including an area
between Maysville and Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, and south of Pea
Ridge, Arkansas. The damage in these areas was determined to be
straight-line wind in the 70 to 80 mph range.

In addition to the following summaries, a tornado has been confirmed
in and near Checotah, Oklahoma. Details regarding this tornado will
be included in a later summary when finalized.

Additional investigation, including ground surveys, continues for
this event. Known damage that is possibly associated with additional
tornadoes is in the following areas: south and east of Pawhuska,
near Copan to near Wann, near Spavinaw, south of Bluejacket, near
Muldrow and Roland, from near Keefton to near Braggs, near Cookson,
several areas of Franklin County Arkansas, near Wyandotte, and near
Rocky Mountain.
