.SYNOPSIS...Gusty west to northwest winds are expected again today
with only a few clouds over northern Nevada. A cold front tonight will
usher in colder air into the area Wednesday with highs only
reaching into the 40s and 50s along with isolated showers across
portions of northeastern Nevada. Another disturbance will bring
light shower activity to northeastern Nevada again on Thursday
with potential for widespread rain and mountain snow coming up for
the weekend into early next week.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Today through Wednesday night

Dry but cool and breezy conditions are expected again today. Winds
will be just a bit lower but still gusty in the afternoon with
gusts of 30 knots from the west-northwest possible in some areas.
Otherwise, only a few clouds expected today across northern Nevada
with temperatures rising into the 60s in most valleys. Lows
tonight will cold and drop into the 20s with nearly a 100% chance
of most valleys north of US-50 dropping to or below freezing.

An upper-level wave along with a cold front will affect mainly
northern Nevada tonight into Wednesday. A colder air mass begins
to move into northern Nevada tonight into Wednesday morning
resulting in high temperatures across the I-80 corridor and
points northward around 10 degrees cooler with highs in the 40s
and 50s with a brisk northwest wind of 15-20 mph. A few
snow/graupel showers are expected across mainly northern Elko
county Wednesday but impacts will be minimal. Lows Wednesday night
will once again fall into the mid to upper 20s across much of
central and northern Nevada.

.LONG TERM...Thursday through next Monday.

Thursday, a short wave will eject downstream of coastal ridging.
The short wave will travel is across Oregon, Southern Idaho,
Northern Nevada before exiting towards northern Utah and Wyoming
Thursday evening. For Nevada, increasing clouds and breezy
westerly winds 15-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph can be expected in
the late afternoon and into the early evening. While the short
wave propagates east, Isolated to scattered showers and mountain
snow showers are forecasted across Northern Elko county in
Northeast Nevada. Generally under a tent of an inch of rain and is
expected. Highs Thursday range from the upper 50s to mid 60s,
with lows in the lower 30s.

Friday, there`s some model discrepancy on timing and placement of
the next system. In general, Dry and warm conditions will
dominate, with highs in the low to mid 60s. Winds will l be
lighter than Thursday, but may be breezy in places. Lows are
forecasted in the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Saturday, warm air will advect into the state with strong
southerly winds 20-25 mph with gusts 35 mph or higher. Winds are
currently look strongest across central Nevada, where blowing dust
may precede the frontal passage. To the west, Isolated and
scattered showers will progress eastward throughout the day. Most
of the rainfall will occur across Humboldt County on Saturday
before spreading eastward Sunday. Highs are forecasted in the
upper 60s to lower 70s with the strong southerly winds. Lows are
expected to be warmer as well with the increased cloud cover,
ranging from the upper 30s to mid 40s.

Sunday the trough progresses eastward over Nevada. Isolated to
scattered showers with mountain snow showers will likely spread
across the area. The most persistent bands could produce anywhere
from a tenth or two of an inch of rainfall. Highs will be cooler
in the lower 60s with the breezy westerly winds. Lows look to
remain in the mid 30s.

By Monday, the system should be departing the area, with lingering
showers across northern Nevada. Highs rebound into the mid 60s,
with lows remaining in the mid 30s. Winds will continue to remain
breezy in the afternoon hours.

.AVIATION...Dry with VFR conditions expected at all terminals
over the next 24 hours. Gusty west to northwest winds are
expected this afternoon and early evening, with sustained wind speeds
of up to 15 knots and gusts around 25 knots.

&&

.HYDROLOGY...Elevated flows continue across several streams,
creeks, and rivers throughout northern and central Nevada due to
continued snow melt. Colder temperatures, mostly in the 20s, are
expected tonight and Wednesday night with high probabilities of
near 100% of falling to or below freezing which will inhibit rapid
snow melt. Dry conditions are expected across northern Nevada
today. A cold front associated with a weather disturbance will
bring a few showers to northeastern Nevada Wednesday afternoon but
will be insignificant in terms of hydrology.
